At
least six bodies have been recovered after the 8.0 Solomon Islands
quake triggered a tsunami on Wednesday. The tsunami smashed into
villages in the Solomon Islands.
The Pacific Ocean tsunami
warning had been canceled, although 4'11" waves were too fast for five
elderly and one child to outrun and they were sucked under the rushing
waters.
An unstated number of people are still missing. Strong
aftershocks have kept residents from returning to the coastal areas.
Five villages were wiped out by the tsunami.
The Solomon
Islands comprise more than 200 islands with a population of about
552,000 people. The islands lie within the "Ring of Fire," an arc of
earthquake and volcanic zones that stretches around the Pacific Rim,
where about 90% of the world's quakes occur, reported Huffington Post.
Let's pray for these, who appear to be impoverished and living in such a dangerous environment.
