Late last week, hundreds of thousands menhaden fish washed up near Masonboro Island, North Carolina.

About 30-40,000 fish washed ashore on a South Carolina beach on Tuesday for at least the second time within a week.  Menhaden fish washed ashore along a mile and a-half stretch of beach from Georgetown County to Pawleys Island, said Pawleys Island Police Chief Michael Fanning, according to NBC News.

The Department of Natural Resources said on Wednesday that the fish died of hypoxia, lack of oxygen.  On Thursday, however, they retracted that statement, saying the fish did not die of depleted oxygen, cold water temperatures, or algal bloom.

Mass animal deaths made headlines in 2011, when thousands of animals were found dead in countries around the world.  The mass deaths continued into 2012.  Hundreds of Humboldt squid beached themselves near Santa Cruz, California in December.  In September, dead seagulls and fish washed ashore on Lake Eerie, reported Huffington Post.

This is Bible prophecy being fulfilled in the last days, as spoken of by the prophets,

"The land will mourn and everyone who dwells in it will languish, with the beasts of the field, the fowls of heaven, yes, the fishes of the sea will also be taken away" Hosea 4:3
